Ryan and I have done this run for the past two years on Thanksgiving morning. His parents have been in town both years, and it was a fabulous way to get the day going, feel accomplished, and move your body on a day with so much food. All that on top of providing donations to a great organization in our community.
The Thanksgiving Day run has both a 5K and 10K option, as well as the option to be timed in more race fashion.
In the past few years, there have been over 28,000 runners at this event on Thanksgiving morning! It is one of the biggest fun runs in the area, and so amazing to see all these people lining up to run, and support the community and their health in this season where so many people need food and warmth. From beginning in 1994 with only 800 runners, this is an amazing accomplishment. The Run to Feed the Hungry has raised over $750,000 for the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services annually the past few years, and has become a tradition for Sacramento area families on this holiday.

I'll be running this event for fun with my friends on Thanksgiving morning, and I'm already looking forward to it! It will be a week before my marathon, so I am going to be running this easy, and enjoying the morning with everyone else who is out there, moving their bodies and being thankful for all they have and can accomplish by putting one foot in front of the other.
Note: This post is not sponsored by The Run to Feed the Hungry. I believe this is a great cause and a great family race in the Sacramento area, and highly recommend it to other runners and walkers
What a fantastic event to run for!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a huge turnout too!
Thanks for taking the time to comment and input on my blogging question. It has been very interesting to read other people's thoughts for me too!
Yeah -- its a very cool event. I love that it started with so few people and is now a holiday tradition with over 15x the number of people!
